Farewell Message from Past President Trish Leonard
As I sit here and write this farewell letter, it’s not with sadness, it’s with love, pride and all of the accomplishments we made during the past two years.
In 2019, when I took the helm as president, we were at 11 members. We had a lot of work to do and as Zontians I knew we could meet the challenge. In July 2019, we held a successful membership drive, bringing in 6 new members. Since then, our membership has grown to 21.
We faced several challenges in 2020. Our major fundraiser for the Woman of the Year, was postponed twice. The Holiday Party canceled and Zoom became our primary source of communication. Even though we were unable to do some of the above in 2020, we were still able to donate gift cards and items to Jill’s Place and Wings of Hope and provided over 575 pieces of Jewelry to the children at Bonita Springs Elementary School for this Mother’s Day. We also have a new website Zontabonitasprings.com, held two inductions and one orientation, 8 members attended an in-person Area 6 meeting in Punta Gorda and will be awarding four $500 scholarships to deserving women and girls either starting college, going back to school, or the trades.
During COVID, our club participated in “Stronger than Covid” wherever you were, you could perform a small safe service project. Thanks to our president-elect for this brilliant idea. I am so proud of each and every one of you for making this happen.
2020 has really made me more grateful for the little things. As some members leave for the summer while others stay here, always remember to sit back and reflect on what was most important, faith, family, and friends.
As the new leadership takes over, you will see only greater things happening in our club. Congratulations to all to the new board and the board who continues their term.
It has been my honor and privilege serving you. A new journey awaits. From my heart to yours, thank you!
